Camp Fire USA: Omaha, Nebraska

Camp Fire USA Selected as Recipient for Wantanabe Halloween Donation

Posted: October 16th, 2006

October 16, 2006, – Omaha. Halloween will be a little sweeter for a local non-profit youth agency thanks to the generosity of The Terry K. Watanabe Charitable Trust. Mr. Watanabe announced today that Camp Fire USA will receive $5.00 for each trick-or-treater who visits his home on Halloween up to $25,000. Mr. Watanabe, who is known for the generous treats that he provides for children, will be handing out 10 packs of M&M’s between 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. at his home in Regency on Halloween night, October 31st. The opportunity to get this extra special treat, and make a difference for Camp Fire, is open to all area children.

The donation will be used to expand Camp Fire USA’s Snack Pack Program, a program that provides healthy and nutritious food for low income children as part of Camp Fire’s after school programs. The backpacks, which are donated and filled by volunteers, are given to 340 children every Friday afternoon. The backpacks include 5 juice boxes, 2 cans of vegetables, 2 cans of fruit, 2 Hormel dinner cups, pudding, cereal, breakfast bars and fresh fruit – often the main source of food for the children for the weekend.

Camp Fire USA serves over 20,000 children each year through after school programs and violence prevention programs in schools and homeless shelters in Omaha and Council Bluffs. For more information about the Halloween contribution or the Snack Pack Program contact Katie Bakhit at 397-5809.
