Pancakes for Camp Fire

August 27th, 2009

Pancakes at Gallup The Gallup Organization gave fourteen lucky Camp Fire kids the opportunity to visit the Gallup campus and enjoy pancakes from the Pancake Man.  A fundraising effort by Gallup, the Pancake Man flipped buttery cakes for nearly three hours for Gallup associates to benefit Camp Fire’s Weekend Food Program.

Camp Fire kid Miguel said his favorite part was the syrup!  Thank you Gallup for raising nearly $400 to help kids eat over the weekend!

Camp Fire at Work

August 25th, 2009

CF at WorkPhysicians Mutual welcomed more than thirty Camp Fire kids to their offices for the 2nd Annual “Camp Fire at Work” Day.  Outfitted with a brand new t-shirt, the group walked to Physicians Mutual in the morning to spend the morning learning about the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo, then took a behind-the-scenes tour of the building.

After a bountiful lunch in the Physicians Mutual cafeteria, the kids spent the afternoon discovering the wonders that go into the world of providing insurance.  A water balloon game taught them about the importance of targeted marketing while a peek at the security cameras showed all that goes into keeping their building secure.  The kids were even able to make their own bona fide Physicians Mutual security tags for future visits.

Camp Fire at Work is designed to give Camp Fire kids the opportunity to see what jobs are available for them in the future if they stay in school and work hard.  Thank you to everyone at Physicians Mutual who made the day possible for so many kids.

NNOCamp Fire is a proud member of the Park East Neighborhood Association and helped celebrate the National Neighborhood Night Out.  While the kids enjoyed carnival games and prizes, adult neighbors played bingo and took the time to get to know one another in the Park East Park.  A hot dinner complete with popsicles for dessert gave everyone the chance to fill up and cool down in the evening.

Camp Fire at the Ballpark

August 14th, 2009

Camp Fire at RosenblattThank you to the Omaha Royals and WOWT for giving a group of lucky Camp Fire kids the opportunity to watch the Royals beat Oklahoma City on August 22nd.

Not only did the kids enjoy the game and fireworks from a suite donated by WOWT, they also had the chance to go on the field prior to the game.

Camp Fire kid Isaiah even threw out the very first pitch of the night before taking a photo with the Royals mascot.
