Food Program Receives Community Support

November 6th, 2008

Thanks to a recent KETV Channel 7 story about our Food Program, Camp Fire has received an outpouring of community support through financial and food donations.  This support is crucial to ensuring that Camp Fire can continue to feed kids seven days a week, every week of the year.  If you are interested in learning how simple it is to sponsor and feed a child in our community, contact Michelle Zych at 397-5809 or mzych@campfireomaha.org.

Family Night on St. Mary’s Avenue

November 6th, 2008

Camp Fire kids stay in the lines while their parents learn about resources in our community.Camp Fire welcomed families from our neighborhood to our first Family Night at our facility.  Nearly 100 people attended the inaugural event.  Laughter echoed through the halls as children participated in games to win tickets and purchase prizes.  Their parents took the opportunity to learn firsthand about purchasing a home, the importance of having a bank account, Medicaid, and tenant rights from bilingual experts on each topic.  After the program, families enjoyed dinner provided by Camp Fire.  The biggest hit of the night was the take-away bags that included hygiene items and winter clothing.

Camp Fire Family Nights provide our kids the opportunity to have dinner with their families and their neighbors while being educated on important resources available to help them achieve success.
