A Tradition of Giving

March 18th, 2008

Twelve year old Haley Bekins supports Camp Fire’s Snack Pack program through her birthday celebration. When Haley Bekins was asked what she wanted for her birthday, three things topped her list - a party at a new bowling alley, 35 of her closest friends, and the opportunity to help kids in our community.  Following a tradition started by her younger sister, Libby, Haley decided that it wasn’t gifts for herself she wanted to commemorate her 12th year.  Instead, she asked that her friends and family make contributions to Camp Fire’s Snack Pack program and ensure that 350 children have kid-friendly and nutritious food to get them through the weekends.  Through her birthday celebration, Haley contributed $635.00 to Camp Fire, providing nearly 130 children with food for the weekend.

Camp Fire Kids Reach for Their Dreams

March 18th, 2008

Former Olympian Josh Davis took time to visit with the kids about “reaching for their dreams” while showing off his Olympic skills. The kids even were able to try on Davis’ Olympic medals!Nearly 50 kids from Camp Fire USA will embark on an experience designed to teach the benefits of vision, teamwork and individual effort, while instilling a lasting appreciation for the arts thanks to Mutual of Omaha and local artist Kristin Pluhacek.  This summer Omaha will host world-class swimming events and to commemorate this special time, Camp Fire kids will work with Pluhacek each week to create art masterpieces that express their understanding of “reaching for your dreams.”

Support Camp Fire USA in this initiative and watch for the exhibit at the Qwest Center during the world-class swimming events during the month of June.  For more information, visit www.mutualofomaha.com/swim.
